The Once for All Sacrifice of Jesus

“Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God, and since that time he waits for his enemies to be made his footstool. For by one sacrifice he has made perfect forever those who are being made holy.” (Hebrews 10:11-14)

Have you ever dread doing the same routine tasks which you know will be of little benefit?

Please don’t get me wrong – some routine tasks are hugely important. For example, drinking a cup of water when you wake up or brushing your teeth before you go to bed are crucial habits for good health. Likewise, spending time to read the bible and pray every morning is vital for your spiritual growth.

Yet there are some tasks which seem meaningless, but we do them anyway!

Activities like scrolling through social media feeds or watching TV programs repeatedly are pointless in the long run. Worse still is having to comply with ineffective practices that stem from the whims of your bosses or the organization you work for. Or studying topics or subjects that you know you will not pursue in future. You cannot say no to doing them even though you feel they are pointless to do!

Today, we as God’s children are so thankful for the sacrifice of Jesus our high priest on the cross. His offering of himself is totally effective and beneficial for us to bring about God’s forgiveness for our sins and to make us holy in God’s sight. All we need to do is to continually put our full trust and hope in Jesus!

Because of Jesus, we are spared from having to participate in the ritualistic daily sacrifices under the Old Covenant. These sacrifices do not remove sins but are nevertheless required by God and powerful in pointing towards the coming Saviour. And the priests had to faithfully perform them. Aren’t you glad to be spared of them?😄

Therefore, let us rejoice all the more and be all the more thankful for Christ’s “once for all” sacrifice for us! Let us not take God’s grace for granted but worship and serve Him fully today!

Have a blessed day!🙏
