The Choice of Faith

“By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward.” (Hebrews 11:24-26)

Why do we give up consuming chocolates or sweets when we enjoy eating them?😄

It’s because there is a greater health benefit to us than the temporary sugar fix we get from them! We know what is best for us in the longer term and are willing to give up short term pleasures. We do so because we choose what is of greater value to us.

Authentic faith works the same way as well.

It is a choice of God’s ways over our ways. This is because we recognize that there is a higher good that comes from choosing God’s commands rather than insisting on our own selfish and sinful desires.

In Moses’ life, although the stakes were much higher, he made the same choice as well. He knew that to identify with God’s people instead of the Egyptians can mean not only forfeiting all his wealth and privileges but result in certain death as well. And that was what happened when he made his choice to embrace God’s destiny for him.

Yet underlying every action of faith is the “value proposition” in our hearts. We choose what we value. The reason Moses did what he did was because he “regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt.”

What are you valuing in your hearts today?

▪️Are the treasures which the world offer more attractive and enticing than God’s rewards?
▪️Or are you valuing embracing Christ’s will, even if it involves suffering, greater than a temporary enjoyment of the world’s safety and security?

May we choose this day to walk the way of faith and the cross – of sacrificial trust and obedience. And look forward to the reward that no one can take from us forever!

Have a blessed day🙏
