“In the past God spoke to our ancestors through the prophets at many times and in various ways, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed heir of all things, and through whom also he made the universe. The Son is the radiance of God’s glory and the exact representation of his being, sustaining all things by his powerful word.” (Hebrews 1:1-3)
Have you ever experienced the real thing and found that it far exceeds all of its representations?
For example, I have been told about how beautiful the mountains and rivers in New Zealand are. I have even viewed its natural scenery in postcards and seen videos of them in films.
But none of these images can be compared to seeing and experiencing the breathtaking sights of God’s creation in real life! I remembered being filled with wonder as I stood on the mountain top during my backpacking trip there. I took in the majestic mountain range and valleys all around me in starstruck awe. I tried to imprint all that I have seen into my mind because no photos can do justice to what I have seen!
From the very beginning of the letter to the Hebrews, we are already told of how superior Jesus is. We may have heard of God’s goodness and truth through verses in the bible or through the acts of other people, but nothing compares to communicating and connecting with our Lord in person!
And it doesn’t even come remotely close.
The Man Jesus is exactly like God the Father and possesses the same authority, power and glory as the Father. Nothing and no one else comes close to being able to show us how God is like and what He is saying to us compared to Jesus!
Which is why the Holy Spirit is inviting us to approach, hear and trust in Jesus today. He is the real thing (above everything else) and fully deserving of our worship and adoration.
Let us look to no one else but focus on Jesus alone for He is the One who fills us with divine wisdom and hope and strengthens us for all that we do!
