Cultivating the Soil of your Heart

So, as the Holy Spirit says:

“Today, if you hear his voice,
do not harden your hearts”

(Hebrews 3:7-8)

Have you ever cultivated a garden? If you have, you will realize that to make your plants grow and flourish is not an easy task!

One most important thing you have to ensure is that the soil is suitable aerated. This is because the weather would naturally dry the soil into clumps. Cultivating breaks up the crusty soil surface allowing for a much easier penetration of air, nutrients and water deep into the soil where plant roots can gain access to them.

Cultivating the soil is therefore crucial to allow for newly germinated seeds to sprout through the surface of the soil.

It is the same with the soil of our hearts.

God’s word is like a seed in our hearts seeking to grow and bear fruit but it can only do so in a favourable environment. God’s word can only sprout when the soil of our hearts is tender and full of trust in God.

And the responsibility to cultivate our hearts belongs to us and no one else.

Which is why the Apostle James reminds us too:

“So get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.” (James 1:21)

Are our hearts today meek and tender before the Lord? Let us, as we hear the Holy Spirit’s voice, not harden our hearts against his words but receive them with complete obedience and joy.

Have a blessed day and weekend ahead!🙏
