Lenten Devotion – Trust in Christ and Not Our Own Works
Day 3, 16 February 2024
“What’s more, the Scriptures looked forward to this time when God would make the Gentiles right in his sight because of their faith. God proclaimed this good news to Abraham long ago when he said, “All nations will be blessed through you.” So all who put their faith in Christ share the same blessing Abraham received because of his faith.” Galatians 3:8-9 (NLT)
When Paul wrote to the Galatians, he reminded them that their faith should be in the sacrifice of Christ who has redeemed them through his death on the cross and not by the law.
Relying on our works and own efforts does not save us. Anyone who pursues a life of works, as most Christians do today, makes a futile effort. We cannot please God solely on doing good works.
I was reminded of an incident where my faith in Christ was tested. God revealed to me through the Holy Spirit to stay within a certain role in my career.
However, I decided that I would still proceed with the career change, thinking (through my own wisdom) that I could raise more provisions for my family and God’s kingdom. My move eventually failed.
As I recounted on my experience, God’s word for me to wait was a way of testing my obedience. To trust in His ways and not on my own efforts. He showed me that His timing is always perfect and that His plans are far better than mine.
Indeed, Christ has paid for all our sin on our behalf, so just receive it in faith. There is nothing more pleasing to God than to trust in Him and obey His will.
