The Miracle of God’s Provision

Lenten Devotion: The Miracle of God’s Provision
Day 8 – 13 Mar 2025

“Jesus then took the loaves, and when he had given thanks, he distributed them to those who were seated. So also the fish, as much as they wanted.” John 6:11

This passage recounts the story of Jesus feeding five thousand people on the shore of Sea of Galilee with just five loaves and two fish, hardly enough for one person.

They were following Jesus to expecting to see more miracles of healing. In their excitement not to miss out on seeing more healings, they forgot to bring their lunch.

Only a clever boy had the foresight to bring his lunch.

With a sense of humor (because He knew what He would do) Jesus asked Philip to buy food for the crowd.

Philip was at a loss until Andrew said that a boy had brought his lunch.

Jesus prayed and the five loaves and two fish was enough to satisfy the hunger of the five thousand with twelve baskets of leftover food.

What can we learn from this?

  1. We can trust in God’s provision always. When I was running my small business, there was never-ending problems. Bank would call to remind me of coming bank dues, customers delay payments, shipment delays etc. Without God’s interventions I would have had to close my company long ago
  2. We need to acknowledge Jesus as our Saviour. We can rely on Him to save us from dangers and our sins. I have had three flight incidents and two motor cycle accidents that could have ended my life but God in His love protected me.
  3. We can have compassion on others. Jesus showed His compassion for the crowd knowing that they needed food. In our own way we are called to follow His example by caring for those in need.
