Dear COA Family,
“Now the main point of what we are saying is this: We do have such a high priest, who sat down at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven…” Hebrews 8:1.
How many times have you been to a talk and not know what the speaker was trying to say?
I believe that this is because the speaker may have been beating around the bush without getting to the main point.
But this is not the case for the writer of the Book of Hebrews. He highlights that Jesus Christ is not just a good teacher of morals and ethics but is also our high priest who reconciles us with the Father. He is superior to all other priests and prophets that have come before.
The fact that he sat down at God’s right hand is also extremely significant. This means that he has fully completed the work assigned to him by the Father and is fully exalted as the Lord of all creation. He is now wholly enjoying the approval and favour of the Father.
Both of these points are very relevant to us as we will be embarking on a sermon series on the Book of Hebrews in 2025.
Yet, this point is also very relevant to us in this season of Advent.
As we look forward to Christ’s coming kingdom, we are reminded that it is not yet fully here. We do not yet fully enjoy the presence and peace of God here on earth. We still see and experience many conflicts and crises not only around the world but in our own lives as well.
But the main point still holds true for us.
Jesus, who is highly exalted and seated at God’s right hand, will one day come physically on earth to usher in the Kingdom of God. There will be true and complete justice and peace throughout the whole world then. Until then, this is our hope which is brought out in this season of Advent.
So, if you are weighed down with worries or anxieties about the uncertainties of life, look up and prepare yourself to serve Christ fully in this life. For the Kingdom of God is soon coming, and all the strife and pain that we experience will be made right. It is the only true hope that fulfils all of our hearts’ longings and aspirations.
