The Journey of Holiness

Dear COA Family,

Don’t be tired of doing good to others. You never know when the seed you plant will bear fruit. I learned about the truth of this recently when I was invited by a student of mine to her commencement.

She had been a student of the Hall that I was the Chaplain of. Her completion of her studies and subsequent graduation from university was nothing short of a miracle. When she was studying for her A levels, she was suffering from severe depression. She attempted to take her own life, but by God’s grace, God preserved her life. However, she had to stay in the hospital for many days as a result and was then committed to the Institute of Mental Health (IMH) for closer observation.

All of this happened just before her A-level examinations.

During the entire time, her school counsellor (who is also a Christian) and I journeyed not only with her but her family. We not only made regular hospital and home visits, but also made extensive arrangements for her to be cared for. The Lord worked his mercy and grace in her life to such an extent that she could not only sit for her examinations, even though she was in IMH, but she did well enough to qualify for university. To see her graduate and have her proud parents with her at the ceremony was such a joy!

This brought home to me the bible verse from Galatians 6:9 – “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.”

Beloved, are you in a position today where you can influence someone else’s life for good? Don’t belittle the impact of your love or care, but trust in the Lord fully for wisdom and strength in all that you do for others. The Lord can cause the seed of faith in their lives to grow to such an extent that you can scarcely believe it now!

Blessings,

Revd Ian
