Dear COA Family,
As we celebrate Singapore’s 60th birthday, what is the best present we can give to our nation?
According to the bible, the best gift we can offer is the gift of prayer.
In Jeremiah 29:7, the Lord spoke to the Israelites through Jeremiah: “Seek the prosperity of the city to which I have sent you as exiles. Pray to the Lord on its behalf, for if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
We as Christians are to shine as lights for Christ in the place he has placed us in. We are not where we are by accident but according to God’s purpose. We can do so by being involved in promoting the welfare of the community around us through our love and good works.
As the COA community, we began doing that last Saturday when we went on a prayer walk around the Potong Pasir and Bidadari estate. Through physically stepping on the ground and praying on-site, we received much insight into the life and needs of the community. We also discerned the will of God for the residents in the area.
In essence, our community has undergone significant changes over the past year. Rapid developments in housing have brought about many young families and new immigrants into our estate. The opening of the Woodleigh Bus Interchange has also brought about greater transport links to make Bidadari a hub. The newly completed 1.8-hectare Alkaff Lake Park is designed to hold up to 40,000 cubic metres of water, a first-of-its-kind multi-functional drainage infrastructure for stormwater management for the Bidadari estate.
More than that, we need to bring the gospel in fresh ways to the community. We can do so by:
Showing love and care for the young who are studying in our children’s care centres and schools in our estate.
Meaningfully engaging the elderly who live with their children so that their lives can have greater meaning.
Coming alongside married couples with help and resources to help them provide for and bring up their children well.
Reaching out to the new citizens to help them feel a sense of belonging to the nation.
God has called us to be Christ’s ambassadors to bring the good news of reconciliation with the Father to all we meet (2 Cor 5:18-20).
Will you fulfil your role by first praying for the nation?
Commit to joining us on 1 Aug (Sat) next year as we embark on our yearly prayer walk for the community of Potong Pasir and Bidadari.
Blessings,
Revd Ian
