Lenten Devotion: Seek God’s Glory and Serve Others
Day 7 – 12 Mar 2025
“You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that bear witness about me,” (John 5:39)
The God we worship is almighty and majestic. There is none like Him. Despite being the great “I Am”, God loves us unconditionally. While we were yet sinners, He demonstrated His love for us by sending Jesus to die on the cross to save us from eternal death. To reciprocate His love, we ought to make it our aim to please him in all that we do (Colossians 1:10).
Some pertinent questions to ask ourselves include:
• What motivates my actions?
• Am I more concerned about what others think of me than what God thinks of me?
• Am I living for God’s glory or my own?
Additionally, the Ten Commandments can be summarized into “love God and love others” (Matthew 22:40).
Power, wealth, and status may typically be seen as markers of success, but in God’s upside-down kingdom, true greatness is found in serving others.
As believers, we are called to reflect God’s love and goodness in a way that others can see and be drawn to Him (Matthew 5:14-16). The way we live, the way we show kindness, humility, and grace, and the way we point others to God, can draw people closer to Him.
So let us put on the “mind of Christ” that seeks the good of others, valuing them above our own desires, just as Jesus did.
Lenten Prayer:
Lord, as we humble ourselves before you, help us to reflect you in areas of our lives where we need to surrender to Your will. Open our hearts to receive Your truth and empower us to seek Your glory above all else. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
