Looking to Jesus Our All in All

Looking to Jesus Our All in All
Day 30 – 24 March (Tue)

“…looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” Hebrews 12:2

Have you ever wondered what Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, and Samuel have in common?

As we meditate on the Scriptures, we see clear common themes:

  • Raised up by God in critical times: Each appeared during moments of crisis, transition, or spiritual decline in Israel.
  • Commended for faith, not perfection: Hebrews 11:32 includes them not because they were flawless, but because they trusted God and acted on that faith.
  • Imperfect people with real weaknesses: Fear, hesitation, rashness, moral failure, and inconsistency appear in several of their stories. Their inclusion shows that faith is not the same as perfection.
  • God’s power in human weakness: Again and again, outcomes went beyond normal human ability – pointing to God’s strength, not theirs.

Are we any different from these individuals? We may not be kings or prophets in today’s world, but we are like them in one important way: we are human, imperfect, and in need of God’s grace.

When we face setbacks and challenges, we can easily become fearful, insecure, angry, impatient, discouraged, confused, or helpless. At times, we may even question God and ask, “Where are you?” or “Why me?”

Yet in such moments, God’s Word gently calls us to look to Jesus Christ (Hebrews 12:2), our Savior and Redeemer. To look to Jesus is to quiet our restless hearts, turn away from sin and distractions, and place our full trust in Him. He is the founder of our faith, who began this good work in us, and the perfecter of our faith, who will carry us through every trial to the end. Therefore, we surrender self-reliance, place every burden in His hands, and acknowledge Jesus as our all-sufficient Lord, strength, and guide in every part of life.

I am now fully convinced that total submission, surrender, and obedience to God are essential, and that we must continue to keep the faith. We should encourage one another to look to Jesus, do our best, let go, let God—He is sovereign!

This is one of the most important lessons I learned through a difficult period. For three years, I fought to resolve this very distressing situation, relying mostly on my own strength. Then one day, I broke down, wept, and knelt to ask the Lord to take charge, because I could no longer carry it. Miraculously, within a week, the situation was resolved. It was finished.

I am reminded and deeply comforted that God’s grace is sufficient for me, and that His power is made perfect in my weakness. So, I choose to acknowledge my weakness, that Christ’s power may rest on me (2 Corinthians 12:9).
