Lenten Devotion – Jesus Heals (Inside Out)
Day 5 – 10 March 2025
Jesus said to him, “Get up, take up your bed, and walk.” And at once the man was healed, and he took up his bed and walked. John 5:8-9
We live in a world today filled with sins, diseases, calamity and death. We see and hear that often in the news. Here in John 5, we see a man who was paralyzed for 38 years. No one would help him enter the pool to be healed.
Yet Jesus had compassion on him. He said to him, “Do you want to be healed?” The man did not know how to answer as he has been there for a long time and did not know how he could get into the water.
Perhaps like the man, we might also feel weak and inadequate to help ourselves. We might be tempted to sit and wait for others to come to our aid. But we do not need to do so.
It is the heart of Jesus to bring complete healing and restoration to us so we can live life abundantly (John 10:10). He accepts us where we are, even when we feel weak and helpless. Jesus’ compassion and healing is not only for believers, but for all who are willing to come to Him. He heals simply because this is the work of his Father (John 5:17).
In this season of Lent, may we come to know the deep compassion and love of Jesus and to experience the sovereign power of Jesus who have come to heal us. May we also reach out to him in faith for our healing, not just for our physical body but also our mind and soul.
