Fix Your Eye On Jesus

Fix Your Eye On Jesus
(Day 20 – 12 Mar, Thu)

“Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, resembling the Son of God, he remains a priest forever.” Hebrews 7:3

The letter to the Hebrews was written to Christians who were tired and under pressure. That sounds familiar. We live in uncertain times—a shaky global economy, retrenchments, rising costs of living, retirement savings that may not feel sufficient, and young people under intense pressure in school to excel. Many quietly carry anxiety about the future. When life feels unstable, it is natural to look for something solid to hold on to.

The first readers of Hebrews faced a similar struggle. They were tempted to return to what felt familiar and safer—the old religious system they had grown up with. The writer reminds them that Jesus is not just a part of their faith; He is the very heart of it.

Hebrews 7 begins the longest teaching section in the letter. That in itself tells us something important. The writer wants his readers to understand one thing clearly: their true help in difficult times is Jesus, our High Priest.

In the Old Testament, priests stood between the people and God, offering sacrifices again and again. But those priests were temporary, and their work was never finished. Jesus is different. He is greater than every priest who came before Him. His priesthood never ends, and His sacrifice does not need to be repeated. He does not stand far away from us—He brings us near to God.

Lent is a season when we reflect on our struggles and our need for grace. When life presses in, we may be tempted to look elsewhere—to comfort, achievement, money, reputation, or even religious routines. Yet Hebrews reminds us that there is no better place to turn than Jesus.

He has already done what we could never do. He stands for us. He intercedes for us. And He brings us safely to God.

So in this season, do not drift backward. Do not look for something easier or more familiar. Fix your eyes on Christ.

There is nothing better we can turn to—and no one greater who holds us.
