Easter Message of Hope

Dear COA family,

Uncertain, unsettled and even unstable.

This was how Singapore’s Prime Minister Lawrence Wong described global conditions in his call for the upcoming election. He goes on to say that the world has undergone profound changes and it is important for Singaporeans to select a team to lead the nation. These solemn warnings do sound scary indeed.

Yet our Christian hope is diametrically different.

It is certain, sure and steadfast.

Hebrews 6:19 tells us, “We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.”

How can we as Christians share this good news with others?

First, we can tell others about our faith. On the first Easter Sunday, Mary Magdalene did not keep the wonderful news of Christ coming back to life to herself but went to the disciples saying, “I have seen the Lord!” (John 20:18) Her joy led to her bursting out to others with the good news. Let us similarly not be ashamed of the good news of the living Christ among us but seek to spread the news wherever and however we can.

Second, we can pray for God to speak to others. Sometimes it is difficult for us to share as our loved ones may not easily believe or even listen to us. Yet in these times, the Holy Spirit can speak to their hearts in a personal way. Pray that the Lord will reveal himself to them as he did so to the two disciples on the road to Emmaus.

Finally, we can we live our lives in faith and trust in God. By living in faith and trust in the character of God and in his promises, we show ourselves to be different from the world. We do not worry nor fret like others do about world events or political uncertainties, but our priority and focus is on God and the things of His kingdom. His peace and assurance in our hearts serve as a powerful testimony to those around us.

Beloved, let us at this Easter season not let the voices or narrative of the world drown out our Christian message of hope, but all the more hold it up for the world to see.

God has come into our world in human likeness and his salvation of us through Jesus Christ is the only true hope and confidence that we have in this world!

God bless,

Revd Ian
