The Blessedness of Waiting

The Blessedness of Waiting
Day 40 – 4 Apr (Holy Saturday: Final Day of Lent)

“Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord; his going out is sure as the dawn; he will come to us as the showers, as the spring rains that water the earth.” Hosea 6:3

Have you ever waited eagerly for something?

As a child, I always looked forward to Christmas Day with great anticipation. The holidays, family gatherings, and the giving and receiving of gifts made it a truly special time.

Yet, looking back, I realise that it was not just the day itself, but the anticipation leading up to it that made it so meaningful. Preparing for Christmas meant planning celebrations, shopping for gifts, and soaking in the festive atmosphere along Orchard Road. That sense of anticipation filled my heart with joy and excitement.

Holy Saturday is also a day marked by anticipation—a waiting for something glorious to come. God did not raise Jesus immediately after His death but allowed three days to pass. In this, He reveals to us the importance—and even the blessedness—of waiting.

In essence, our willingness to wait is an expression of faith, and the act of waiting itself helps to deepen our faith.

The Apostle Paul puts it this way:

“We were given this hope when we were saved. If we already have something, we don’t need to hope for it. But if we look forward to something we don’t yet have, we must wait patiently and confidently.” (Romans 8:24–25, NLT)

Patience, then, is essential to faith. We do not need faith for what we already possess. If God were to grant everything instantly whenever we asked, we might become mere consumers—quick to receive, but just as quick to turn away when difficulties arise. Such a faith would remain shallow and unformed.

But as we learn to wait patiently, our hope is strengthened and our faith matures.

Are you waiting for a breakthrough that God has promised? Have you been praying faithfully, yet still find yourself without an answer?

Do not lose heart. Continue to wait upon the Lord.

For His coming is as certain as the dawn, and when He comes, He will refresh you like the spring rains—bringing His deliverance, favour, and blessing in His perfect time.
