Dear COA Family,
In our sermon series on 2 Corinthians, we learn that all the promises of God find their “Yes” in
Jesus (2 Corinthians 1:20).
How important is God’s word to us and how do we internalise the word of God in our lives?
Here are some Bible verses that attest to the power and effectiveness of God’s word in our lives:
Hebrews 4:12 says, “For the word of God is alive and powerful” (NLT).
2 Timothy 3:16-17 says, “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking,
correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God a may be thoroughly
equipped for every good work” (NIV).
Psalm 119:105 tells us that “Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path” (NIV).
Recently in my conversation with a person, she was sharing with me how God’s word has been
powerful and effective in her life.
She had grown up as a child fearing the dark because from young, her father had exposed her
to horror movies from Hollywood. These films had the effect of introducing to her mind the
fear of the supernatural, unknown and evil working in shadows. As a result, she had trouble
sleeping by herself at night.
But all of this changed when God’s word came powerfully into her heart and mind.
When she was a teenager, the Lord impressed on her heart the verse from Hebrews 13:5 – “I
will never leave you nor forsake you.”
She held on firmly to God’s promise and experienced the true spiritual freedom that came from trust
in God’s word. God’s promises have indeed been “Yes” to her!
It had been the same for my life as well.
All of my deliverance from sin, fear, worry, guilt and shame had come about from trusting in God’s
word. It had been helpful to me to memorise the promises of God and store them firmly in my heart.

comforted by his assuring word?
Let us commit to reading, meditating and memorising his word that it may be powerful and effective
in our lives.
