THANKSGIVING BY COA MEMBERS

Elizabeth Liew shares her testimony of God’s healing and goodness:

In Nov 2021, during a routine bi-annual check up, my endocrine doctor expressed concern that my test results showed potential malignancy (cancer) in the blood. When checks with doctor friends indicated just as much, I became quite concerned, especially since my mother passed away from leukaemia 2 years ago.

Oddly, 2 months prior to this, I had a strange dream of myself living in a house of gold with golden toilets. The blood test results and the dream (I had thought that the gold referred to heaven) led me to automatically conclude that God was telling me that it was time to “go home”.

Even though my prayer buddies were positive and encouraging about the state of my health, I nonetheless struggled with the spectre of ‘going home’ for over a month.

One day, a friend suddenly called me and told me that she had had a prompting to contact me for the past 3 days and was wondering what it was about. When I told her my story, she explained her own position on cancer from Isaiah 53:4-6 :-

Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Based on these verses in Isaiah, the test results cannot mean that my time on earth is up. Jesus heals. In addition, the house of gold, in the context of the dream, does not mean that I am going home but, rather, is speaking of God’s abundant provisions for me.

Somehow, when she started saying these things, conviction finally came upon me that I was not going to die. She encouraged me to continue seeking the Lord for His insight into areas of my heart where I had harboured self-rejection, and also encouraged me to renew my mind regularly with the truth that “I am good”. (That is, there is nothing wrong with me.)

God created Man in the garden in His image and in Genesis 1:31 God declared that I, as a part of His creation …”was very good” indeed. I faithfully prayed this every minute of the day; especially whenever I encountered negative thoughts.

On 24 December 2021, the Haematologist went through my previous years blood test results, and ruled out malignancy. But he also took more blood for further tests.

On 14 January 2022, I received the results and the doctor said all was good, except for a high blood count which he could not account for.

I want to thank God and praise Him for giving me these good reports at this age of 75. I would also like to thank all who supported me in prayer and walked with me through this season, when I came face to face with death.

Patricia Tey (Comlink Chairperson) gives thanks to God for the wonderful experience at the Comlink CNY goodies workshop:

Praise God for a good start to the year. I am thankful that God has brought so many ladies to our activities and granted us with such a good time of fellowship with the ladies. A few of them have expressed that they were glad that we can organise the cooking sessions again.

Personally, it is truly a privilege to serve God. Whenever I feel overwhelmed about the ministry or fearful that the turnout will not be good, God always teaches me to trust Him for He is the one who is in control. “Unless the Lord builds the house, its builders labor in vain.” (Psalm 127:1)

I am thankful to be able to catch a glimpse of His glory when the committee serves Him in unity and in love. Seeing each of the sisters in the committee offering their gifts and talents to our Lord really spurs me on and makes serving the Lord easy and joyful instead of burdensome. Thank you, Ps Ian, Ps Hali and Ps Kwee Beng, for the support given to Comlink through your prayers and presence. I am looking forward to what God will be doing in and through Comlink this year.

To God be the glory!
