The Privilege of Access to God

“Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.” (Hebrews 10:19-22)

A story was told of a man in the 19th century who saved up all his money to buy a ticket for a ship ride from England to the United States. He had always longed to sail the seas and he was ecstatic at fulfilling his childhood dreams.

However, he did not have any money left to buy food on the boat and would live off the bread that he brought along with him. His food soon ran out and by the final day of the journey, he was so hungry to the point of starvation. So he decided to just go to the dining room and ordered the best and most sumptuous meal he could eat.

After a most satisfying meal, he called the waiter and said, “Thank you for the wonderful meal, but I don’t have the money to pay for it.”

The waiter gave him a puzzled look.

“Sir, you don’t have to pay for the meal. The cost of all the meals comes with the ticket,” he replied.

Like the man, we as God’s children have been given the privilege of free access to God’s presence. The price of our access has been paid by nothing less than the blood of Jesus shed for us on the cross. This access is such a great privilege that it trumps all other privileges any person on earth might enjoy!

The key question is this: How are we utilizing that privilege today?

The responsibility for exercising the privilege is ours – we are to draw near to God with sincere hearts and full assurance from faith in Christ!

Therefore let us not be like that man who lived in hunger and poverty, which is such a needless tragedy. Let us instead heed the call and invitation of the Spirit to enter boldly into the presence and blessing of God our Father today!

Have a blessed day!πŸ™
